Once back in his apartment he shrugged off his coat and decided he needed a drink. He went into the sitting room, and only then did he remember Genscher. She was still sitting on the sofa, her legs folded underneath her and her head rested on the armrest. He sighed. She was lovely, and he cursed himself for what he’d done.

“Angela,” he called softly as he knelt beside the sofa.

Her head came up. Her eyes looked straight at him, her face unemotional.

He sighed again and then spoke. “You had a fantastic night, Angela. It was everything you hoped for, everything you desired. Now you are going to go to bed, to sleep, and in the morning, you will remember what a fantastic evening you had. Do you understand?”

“Yes,” she said, rising from the sofa and walking deeper into the apartment.

“Where are you going?” he asked.

“To bed,” she said, already slipping off her shirt.

He followed her, shaking his head. He’d assumed she would go home. Hopefully, the instructions he had given her would let him have a good night’s sleep. He was pretty certain her recollection of the evening would be something he’d find hard to live up to.
